About the Exhibit

The exhibition presents the artist as an observer of reality. Content that is recognizable to our senses becomes an indispensable element in the works presented here. From abstract realism to hyperrealism and through photography, painting, printmaking, augmented, and virtual reality, this group of local and international artists examines the relationship between art and reality.

Although the works included in the show derive from real objects or event sources with strong visual references to the real world, the artists do not aim for formal accuracy and truthfulness. In various degrees, and using a wide range of artistic methods, they challenge, manipulate, or embrace what we know as real and often consider partial abstraction to explain it.

Special thanks to A R E A Gallery for putting this show together at The Yard. We’re thrilled to support this incredible group of artists and share their works with the greater Boston community each day. We hope you’ll join us at the opening reception to take it all in – and maybe even take home the art piece of your dreams!

This exhibit is part of The Yard Art Program, which features seasonally rotating art exhibits and permanent collections across The Yard’s locations. You can read more about our current exhibits on our blog.
