On Tuesday, April 16th, we’re welcoming a new exhibit to The Yard: Herald Square featuring paintings by Jasminfire as part of her show RIGHT BRAIN. Curated by Ché Morales, the collection includes works created from 2016 to current, ranging in color and style and showing the artist’s evolution through major life events.
We hope you’ll join us at the opening reception on April 16th from 6:00-9:00pm at The Yard: Herald Square. This special event will include a first look at the exhibit and will be accompanied by sounds curated by Sabina Bina. Drinks and light bites will also be provided.
Jasminfire (aka Jasmin Charles) is a multidisciplinary artist who is compelled to make art that stimulates honest emotion. She seeks to share the transformational joy of creating with the viewer through color, texture, and sound.
In addition to painting, Jasmin is an experimental violinist, composer, and performer who uses synesthesia to inform her creative decisions. Her early paintings were geometric abstractions, and her latest oeuvre strips that geometry down to a primordial purity of mark-making. The artist’s upbringing is marked by challenges she’s faced, such as dealing with repercussions of her mother’s mental illness. Her works explore the systemic barriers related to the intersectionality of her identity.
The raison d’être of her work is to transform her own darkness into light.
Special thanks to Ché Morales for putting together such an incredible show for our community. We can’t wait to take in these jaw-dropping works with you! Can’t make it to the opening? The show will be on view through July 2019, so be sure to stop by Monday through Friday between 9:30am-5pm to see the collection up close.
This exhibit is part of The Yard Art Program, which features seasonally rotating art exhibits and permanent collections across The Yard’s locations. You can read more about our current exhibits on our blog.
