Tech Attractions at Panorama Festival

June 20, 2016/ by Olivia Ramirez

Panorama Festival is a three-day music, art and tech event set to take the city by storm July 22-24th at Randall’s Island Park. In addition to performances from Arcade Fire, Sia and The National, just to name a few, there’s also an impressive lineup of experiential artists. Panorama Partner, The Verge, has brought together innovative designers and creators for an interactive festivalgoer experience called “The Lab“.

A Weekend of Experiential Art & Technology

The Lab features seven art installations and a virtual reality theater. Every component has been specially crafted by New York City artists. Below are just a few of the installations we’re looking forward to come July!

Hyper Thread by Dave & Gabe

Seven silk “cocoons” will suspend from a truss structure, acting as interactive AV musical instruments that festivalgoers can play by sitting in or touching.

Infinite Wall by Gabriel Pulecio AKA Lustix

Infinite wall is an interactive installation consisting of mirrors, lights and sounds that responds to an individual’s presence. Equipped with a motion sensor, the sculpture can capture the position of one or more festivalgoers and trigger a ripple in time resulting in an ever changing visual and auditory environment.

Cotton Candy Theremin by Emilie BaltzPhilip Sierzega

The Cotton Candy Theremin is an interactive performance piece that remixes the interface of making cotton candy by transforming it into a multi-sensory orchestration.

Giving Back to Entrepreneurs and Small Businesses

Festival Producer Mark Shulman has made a promise to New York to reinvest in the economies of East Harlem, Queens and the Bronx. These plans include the addition of 300 local jobs and $50,000 in STEM scholarships.

In addition to giving back to New York, Panorama Festival has hooked up The Yard’s community with a special surprise. Members can find details on the events page of The BackYard for a chance to win tickets to the festival!

Special thanks to Panorama Festival for throwing New York’s biggest mid-summer event! This is the first year of the festival, and we can tell it’s going to be an epic one.
